Gender, Migration and the EU’s Tech Sector: Why diversity & ethics matter in the age of AI

Masculine, “techno-bro” cultures and values continue to dominate the AI sector. Yet demand for AI expertise presents both opportunities and challenges when it comes to diversifying the AI workforce. As the EU advances its ‘talent pool regulations’ to govern skilled migration, matching job seekers with employers, the EU has significant potential to lead innovation in the tech and AI sector, and address the lack of diversity in the AI workforce. This event brings together professionals from the tech and AI sector and researchers for a dialogue on these developments.

The event will open with a keynote address by Siddhi Pal from Interface, a think tank leading an innovative research agenda on the connections between migration, gender and the AI industry in the EU.

Following the keynote address Lucy Hall (UvA) will moderate a panel discussion featuring  Catherine Schneider (Interface), Professor Daniel Mügge (UvA) and Cindy Zhang (Accenture, Ethical AI Consultant). 

This event will be of interest to researchers, students, and those working in the tech and AI sector curious about the intersections of politics, AI, and diversity in shaping ethical AI interventions. In particular, we welcome those working in the tech and AI sector, as well as researchers on migration, gender, and diversity and the geopolitics of AI.
