Roundtable and Theme Group Discussion

We would like to invite all colleagues interested in participating in the Amsterdam Centre for European Studies (ACES) to a re-launch event to discuss European Studies and to help develop existing or new ACES Theme Groups for the coming four years. The event is divided into two parts: Roundtable Discussion on interdisciplinary European studies in Dutch Universities (13:00-14:00); and Internal ACES Discussion of Theme Groups (14:30-16:00).

Agenda

  • PART I. 13:00-14:00. Roundtable Discussion: European/EU Studies at Dutch Universities in Challenging Times 

This shall include contributions from the ACES Co-directors (Theresa Kuhn and Brian Burgoon), and two guests representing two other Dutch universities with substantial interdisciplinary research and teaching on European studies: Pola Cebulak (VU Amsterdam) and Pieter de Wilde (Groningen).  The Roundtable participants shall exchange views on how Dutch universities can best research, teach and debate European and European Union issues, and how they should do so in ways that bridge academic disciplines and address the many challenges facing Europe generally and Dutch universities particularly.

  • PART II. 14:30-16:00. ACES Internal Discussion of ACES Theme Groups 

This discussion, open to all UvA colleagues, particularly those interested actively participating in ACES, focuses on the role and contours of ACES Theme Groups.  We would like to have an open discussion about the functions and priorities of ACES Theme Groups generally, and about re-launching and/or revising existing or new ACES Theme Groups for the coming four years.  (To focus this discussion, we shall be sending a document on ACES Theme Groups in a under separate mail/posting.)
