Governing Europe

Governing Europe focuses on three interrelated sets of issues: institutional trajectories of European governance, regulatory governance within the EU, and external dimensions of EU governance.

Under these rubrics, the following questions will be addressed: How far are current trends across different policy fields leading to further integration, and how far are they giving rise instead to new forms of differentiation, flexibility, renationalisation, or even disintegration? How and to what extent does the EU regulate risks, safeguard public interests, and ensure accountability and legitimacy, including in fast-moving technologically innovative fields? Through what institutional channels does the EU seek to extend its internal principles, rules and values beyond its borders, and how conversely do external pressures influence the Union’s own institutional set-up, governance, and law?
