About the speaker
Sandra Lavenex is Professor of European and International Politics at the University of Geneva and Visiting Professor at the College of Europe. Her research focuses from an international governance perspective on European and international migration and refugee policies at the intersection of human rights, development, trade and security policies; EU external relations; and EU external differentiated integration.
Sandra Lavenex has followed EU integration in asylum and immigration matters from the outset and is among the pioneers examining its external dimension (with her book "Safe Third Countries: Extending the EU Asylum and Immigration Policies to Central and Eastern Europe", Central European University Press 1999) and its intersection with domestic politics, human rights and internal security (see her second book "The Europeanisation of Refugee Policies: Between Human Rights and Internal Security", Ashgate 2001).
